Custom Homes of Charleston was founded by Mat “Buddy” Spain in an effort to build a company focusing solely on honesty, integrity, and high-quality homebuilding. Born in New Orleans and raised in East Tennessee, Mat has called Mt. Pleasant home since graduating from college. Mat and his wife, Whitney, are blessed to have two lively children, Walker and Ava Mae. When not on a jobsite, Mat enjoys spending time outdoors, coaching, and cheering on his kids at their sporting events.
Over the last decade and a half Mat has managed hundreds of projects throughout Charleston. He loves managing the small details, providing great communication, and delivering an enjoyable homebuilding experience. Those who know Mat will tell you he constantly refers to his homeowners as family.
